The Fifth Toy Story Film Teaser Pits Woody and Buzz Against a Digital Device
Exactly 30 anniversary after the first Toy Story film debuted, launching the animation giant as a leading animation studio and bringing viewers to iconic characters like the cowboy doll (Tom Hanks) and Buzz Lightyear (the voice talent), who are now household names.
Coming in 2026, the next chapter is set to arrive. The initial preview for Toy Story 5 appeared recently, providing a brief look into the plot but leaving fans wondering how it will address the ending of Toy Story 4.
The Latest Addition: A Frog-Shaped Tablet Frightens the Toys
The preview reveals the young girl — who received Andy's toys when he grew up — receiving a latest plaything, one that alarms Woody, Buzz, and the crew. Bonnie acquires her first tablet computer, and she is excited about it.
Presumably, the amphibian-inspired device will come to life just like Bonnie's other toys. However, the characters seem to view it as a threat coming to replace them, which it probably is.
The Cowboy's Comeback: Mysteries from Toy Story 4
One thing the trailer doesn't touch on is what Woody is back with his friends in the child's bedroom. The finale of Toy Story 4 saw him embark on a new adventure with the shepherdess (Annie Potts), traveling with a fair and helping giveaway items locate loving owners.
Certainly, Pixar will explain the consequences of Toy Story 4 in the movie. Witnessing him show up in Bonnie's room without warning is somewhat puzzling, however. It also raises questions whether Bo Peep will have come back with Woody. And what about Duke Caboom (Keanu Reeves)?
Connections from the Previous Film
Fortunately, some aspects are continuing from the prior film. The last thing Woody did before departing for his fresh path was pass his sheriff badge to Jessie (Joan Cusack), leaving her in charge of the toy domain. The clip displays the insignia attached to her shirt.
Hopefully she is remains the key figure among the toys.
Toy Story 5 debuts on June 19, 2026.
